New X-ray solution: focussing on foreign objects

The careful and precise identification of dangerous foreign objects in food packaging is the focus of the exhibition participation of HEUFT SYSTEMTECHNIK GMBH at Anuga FoodTec. The right solution for every application can be experienced from metal detection to a challenging glass in glass inspection on Stand C040-B041 in Hall 05.2 at the Cologne Exhibition Centre. And a new development with unique pulsed X-ray technology which provides maximum detection reliability with minimum radiation even in a confined space.

With its space-saving design the new solution takes on the continuous complete inspection of filled food containers such as cans, carton composite packaging, squeeze bottles or stand-up pouches directly on the conveyor. The X-ray strobes, exclusively available from the technology leader and exactly positioned in a particularly compact casing, illuminate the complete volume of each individual container so that high density foreign objects cannot be missed. Furthermore the slim stand-alone device of the new generation can check the fill level, closure presence and marking of the packed end product. Above all it now also provides food producers with little space along the line an affordable foreign object detection on a HEUFT level.

The highly automated HEUFT eXaminer II XAC which carries out even more demanding inspection tasks will be presented in a separate rotary system together with the HEUFT PRIME for checking fill level, closure, labels and marking. It conducts a sidewall inspection with pulsed X-ray technology twice from different perspectives. Further X-ray strobes also perform a base inspection without gaps. The system achieves maximum detection accuracy in this way particularly during a glass in glass detection: minute splinters are found everything in the food jar even when hidden in the product or behind material structures such as the base dome.

Unmatched accuracy

The HEUFT eXaminer II XB will also prove how reliably and carefully the unique pulsed radiometric measurement identifies contamination such as small pieces of metal or stones during the top-down inspection of freshly filled pouches, flow packs, thermoformed and folding boxes. It achieves an unequalled precision at unbeatable low radiation levels combined with innovative full-field image converters and the HEUFT reflexx² real-time image processing system with learning ability as is the case with all the exhibited X-ray solutions of the new generation. Its impressive level of automation and self-explanatory audiovisual HEUFT NaVi user guidance ensure maximum operational and manipulation reliability for the modular systems.

For those for whom a metal detection suffices should take a closer look at the new, extremely space-saving and flexibly integrable HEUFT ONE. The compact all-rounder makes an affordable entry to a foreign object detection on a HEUFT level possible with innovative electromagnetic detection technologies, customised hardware and software and thoroughly proven procedures for a highly precise product tracking and fault rejection.

Top performance due to depth of field

This is also achieved by the HEUFT canLine when inspecting the quality of empty food cans. Its top-down camera technology has such a depth of field that contamination on the base of the can is identified in one and the same work process just as reliably as misshapen finishes and distorted, dented flanged edges which threaten the safe sealability of the container and as a result the purity, shelf-life and safety of the product inside.

Whether with exclusive pulsed X-ray technology or superior electromagnetic and optical procedures: HEUFT will be showing the right solutions for a wide range of applications for detecting foreign objects, faults and other safety and quality defects during the filling and packaging process at Anuga FoodTec as well as a top new product for a reliable radiometric inspection in a confined space: 20 to 23 March 2018 / Cologne Exhibition Centre / Stand C040-B041 / Hall 5.2.
